Raspberries to you! (It’s Just Another Video Sunday)

April 26, 2009 by Jessica

It appears that Micah’s favorite thing to do these days is to blow raspberries. All day long. He blows them until he drools. And he blows drool bubbles. And the drool drips down his shirt (or on the floor, or the playmat). All the while, he is shrieking, kicking and laughing with delight!

I know it doesn’t sound like much to you, but raspberries are a milestone. They indicate certain skills in dexterity, and an ability to discover an action and repeat it. Like most babies, I think Micah enjoys both the sound it makes and the feel on his lips. The sensations are exciting right now, and he loves to make raspberries. I love to watch how something so simple brings sheer joy to my little man.

We’ve hit a few other important milestones in the past few weeks. Micah has found his thumb . . . again, it doesn’t seem like much, but while he has previously sucked his hands and fingers, he actually likes his thumb right now, and really appreciates the difference. He puts it in his mouth and curls his fingers around his nose.

And a little video for good measure – press the triangle on the lower left corner to see Micah in action:

Unlike sucking on his hand, he finds his thumb quite comforting. It is not a habit I want to encourage (thumbsucking is a much harder habit to break than a paci, in my opinion – the pacifier fairy can come take the pacifier away, but I’ve never figured out how you get rid of a thumb!) but it is so darn cute right now. Micah has also discovered how to put his own paci in his mouth . . . sometimes. The problem is, he is also the one taking it out and upsetting himself most of the time, and he is much better at taking it out than putting it back again.

I’ve mentioned this before, but Micah can really play with toys now. He hits buttons, and spins rollers, and turns dials, and he smiles in the mirror and responds to the lights and music. He LOVES his new toys (thanks to Grandma Roberta for this wonderful activity center!), and he is learning to reach further and sit taller everyday. (Don’t forget to press the triangle on the lower left corner to watch Micah play).

He is getting close to holding a sit by himself – He can do it for 2 or 3 seconds right now if I position him “just” right . . . but then he flops over. I’ll bet he’ll be sitting in the next few weeks. As for rolling over – he can easily roll from tummy to back (but sometimes gets stubborn and won’t do it). I am also convinced he is able to roll from back to belly, but he hates being on his belly, so he always stops short. At night, he rolls most of the way over to his belly – he likes to sleep with both arms and his chest flat on the bed, but his hips tilted sideways.

And the most important milestone of all . . . Micah can use a real swing! Dave, Jen and Max came over today, and off to the neighborhood park we went. I had seen a picture on Facebook of a friend from Micah’s playgroup in the swing, and I began to wonder if Micah was big enough to use the swing, too. We plopped him in there . . . and he was smiling, laughing, and enjoying it! He had no problem holding himself upright. It was pretty amazing.

Oh . . . and we sent Micah down the slide for good measure.

With this kind of progress, we might need to send him to college next month! Okay, maybe not, but can you tell I’m a proud mommy?

Here is some “bonus” video from the past few weeks (to play, click on the triangle on the bottom left of each frame):

Today, we will be presenting a photo essay. Micah in pictures. Here are a few of my favorite things:

Hanging out in my loungewear . . . like the slippers?

And the mullet shots (okay, it is part faux hawk). . .

business in the front. . . .

party in the back . . .

Look at that luscious hair!

Can you see my curls?

Video Sunday

April 5, 2009 by Jessica

I’ve decided to declare today Video Sunday. To celebrate this momentous occasion, I will post way too much Micah video! Our little guy is chatting (okay, the rest of you would call it babbling) and laughing now, and he can sit on his own in the Bumbo seat! As a reminder, click on the triangle on the bottom left corner of the images to make each of the videos play.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s SUPER MICAH!!

February 20, 2009 by Jessica

Part of our new bedtime routine is to swaddle Micah in the Halo SleepSack Swaddle. We were swaddling him in the Kiddopotamus SwaddleMe, but he managed to get his arms out of the middle and kind of wrap it around his neck a few weeks ago, so we switched to a different swaddle for our own peace of mind. Well, the new swaddle is sort of a dress . . . with a cape on the back. Anyway, we couldn’t resist taking these pictures:

Here are some other adorable videos of our little Micah man this past week:

Oh, and as promised, here is my dog loving the playmat:

It isn’t an accident

February 13, 2009 by Jessica

Micah is definitely rolling over. His Grammy came over to visit tonight, and he rolled over about 4 or 5 times just to show off for her! We managed to capture it on video:

I can’t believe my big boy! Sleeping through the night, sleeping in his crib, rolling over . . . I just can’t believe what will happen next!

Micah’s Daddy tried to capture the moment on video last night . . . instead he got some really adorable shots of Micah fussing and then sucking on his paci. Enjoy!

30 week prenatal appointment

October 21, 2008 by Jessica

Today we had our 30 week prenatal appointment. It was just another run-of-the-mill appointment. We discussed my medication, and I am supposed to stay on the current dosages of the tylenol and the Terbutaline. I am measuring 29 cm, which is right on track. The baby is head down and slowly descending – I think he already knows the way out, so we are going to have to convince him to hang in there a bit longer. We got to hear (and record) the heartbeat again, so I am posting it here if you are interested in listening!

The good news is that my last urine culture finally came back negative! We sent out one more today to see if the “maintenance” dosage of antibiotics I’ve been taking is keeping this infection at bay. I really hope it does! On Thursday, we go back to the Maternal Fetal Medicine office for another ultrasound. I will find out if I am allowed to do any more courses of Indocin, they will be checking on my cervix to make sure I am not starting to go into labor, and they will also take another good look at Frank to see if he is growing or shrinking. I am also going to ask them to search for Fiona, because I think she is in there somewhere.

So . . . . for right now, all is well. I am back to appointments every 2 weeks unless there are new problems with Frank and contractions. Oh, and for those of you who have been asking, here is a “belly shot” of me at 30 weeks:

My only other thing to add was that we stopped by the house to check on the progress . . . I really hate our contractor. He got the wrong granite in again, but at this point, we might just accept it because if we don’t, he really won’t ever finish the damn house! We are still hoping to start moving in next weekend, but I’m still uncertain if that is just a pipe dream.

24 weeks 2 days

September 11, 2008 by Jessica

Today I am 24 weeks 2 days pregnant! We had another appointment today, and we finally managed to record the heartbeat again. He was playing keep away with the doppler, and even kicked it a few times before running away. He kicked so hard the probe actually moved! There are actually 2 recordings – the first one is the actual heartbeat, and the second one is the baby moving around and kicking the doppler. Hope you enjoy!

I did get in “trouble” today, however, for not gaining weight. Or, perhaps more accurately, for losing another 1/2 lb. I’m still pretty surprised I haven’t been putting on weight considering how big I’m getting, and I’m not really sure what else I can do! I eat . . . and eat . . . and eat, and the weight doesn’t seem to go up yet. I think this baby has Elliot’s metabolism! I also had gained so much weight before getting pregnant that I wonder if this is just my body stabilizing . . . kind of like an advance on a paycheck or something.

Other than that, I’m still worried about Nugget. She hasn’t passed the blockage yet and still isn’t eating. We go back tomorrow for another xray, and I’m hoping they will say she is okay.

Baby’s Heartbeat

June 22, 2008 by Jessica

I think we finally figured out the technology . . . hopefully this will work for sharing the baby’s heartbeat. Just click play to listen! Partway through, there is a loud “thwap” sound, and we were told it was the baby kicking!
